Other FAQ’s on this topic – Lesson Two

  1. Is there a specific amount of time I should spend reading the Bible every day?
    • The answer to this is that you should spend SOME time in your Bible every day.  Some people start with a goal of reading 1-2 chapters a day, others start with a goal of 5-10 minutes and then move up from there.
    • You do not earn “points” with God by reading your Bible and you won’t get in “trouble” if you miss a day or two.  However, as you learned above, reading your Bible is the best way to grow in your relationship with God and we encourage you to spend some time in your Bible daily.

  2. Is there a certain amount of time I need to pray when I pray?
    • Is there a certain amount of time you need to talk to your spouse to have a good relationship?  How about with a best friend?  There is no good way to quantify a specific number – you just need to make spending time with God a priority.
    • The Bible tells us to “pray without ceasing” {1 Thessalonians 5:16-17}.  This is a reminder that God wants to be a part of every part of our lives.  Each day, any time He comes to mind, you can talk briefly with God.  Thank Him for the sunrise and the gift of a new day.  Ask Him to be with you in your next meeting or class.  When you are faced with a challenging situation, ask Him how you should respond.  The more often you do this, the deeper your relationship with God will grow.
  3. Do I need to be baptized?
    • Yes!
    • Jesus was baptized. {Matthew 3:13-15}  He commands all believers to be baptized. Matthew 28:19} Baptism is one of the first acts of obedience of a new believer. {Acts 2:40-41}.  Becoming a follower of Jesus is a big deal.  You need to share your decision with others and celebrate together with your new family.  Baptism is the first step in that.  We encourage you to reach out to your church family and find out how to take that step soon.  Find out more details or sign up to be baptized at Hope here.
